| I have yet to talk about any city elections. Since New York City is the largest city in the world, I decided I would comment on this election. Since 1994 "Republicans" have controlled the Mayors office in New York City. We had Rudy Giuliani from 1994 to 2001 and Michael Bloomberg since 2002. Bloomberg's 3rd term is ending this year. I put "Republican" in quotes since Bloomberg is not really a Republican. He only ran as a Republican in 2002 to ride Giuliani's popularity. Since 2002 he has been switching from the Republican Party to the Independent party depending on if its a election year. This election year New York City is faced with a field of weak candidates. We have nobody good to run so now we have the bottom of the barrow to pull from. The Democrats front runner is Christine Quinn who is the New York City Council Speaker. Republicans front runner, I guess you can call him that, is Joseph Lhota. He was the former Chairman of the MTA. Neither Republican or Democratic candidates are winning by a large amount in their primaries. Both primaries show more undecided voters, rather than voters who support a candidate in the primaries. In my opinion there is still hope for New York City. The best person for the job is the current New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly. Yes I know Raymond Kelly did state in January that he is not interested in the job, but whenever a politician says that, their minds always change. Half the people that run for office at one point in time say their not interested in the job. Raymond Kelly would be the best chance for Republicans to keep control of New York City. He has the most experience, he is very popular, very smart, and very tough. Kelly is 71 years old. He was a former Marine and Vietnam vet. Raymond Kelly became Police Commissioner in 2002. Since 2002 New York City have seen crime rates plunge, and the murder rate hit a historic low. Overall crime in all areas also decreased dramatically under his watch. If Raymond Kelly ran I guarantee you he would win, and I guarantee you the city would be better off under his leadership. RUN RAY RUN. |
