Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner Was Reelected Today To Keep His Leadership Postion1/3/2013 Today was the day the 113th congress began. With that it lead to the reelection of the Republican Speaker John Boehner. Boehner received 220 votes from the members of the House of Representatives This will be his second term as Speaker of the House. The congress looks almost identical to what it looked like 2 years ago when Boehner first became the Speaker of the House. We still have a Republican majority in the House of Representatives. Democrat Nancy Pelosi is still the House Minority Leader. In the Senate the Democrats still maintain control. Republican Senator Mitch McConnell is still the Senate Minority Leader and Democrat Senator Harry Reid is still the Senate Majority Leader. The leadership in both houses of congress stayed the same. With this new congress I do expect a lot of grid lock. We have the Democrats who control the Senate and we have the Republicans that control the House. We also have a Democrat President in the White House. All of which makes comprise very difficult in Washington. I do expect and would hope Speaker Boehner tackle's the following issues, spending cuts, the nation debt (which is 16.4 trillion and has increased by 6 trillion in the last 3 years), the deficit (doubled in the last 3 years), Welfare reform, immigration reform, as well as Social Security and Medicare reform. This congress has a lot to do and it would be nice if congress can get something done. Finally I think something new should be tried in Washington, maybe they could start reading the bill before we pass it. In the comment section post the issues you want this congress to take care of. |
