This edge that the GOP gained can be linked to the failed rollout of Obamacare and the dissatisfaction the people have with Obamacare and President Obama.
Back in October, polls were showing that democrats had a large edge over Republicans. A CNN poll showed Democrats were leading Republicans 50% to 42%. Now a CNN poll that was released a few days ago shows Republicans leading Democrats 49% to 44%.

Democrats can no longer think about gaining in the Senate. They are now on the defensive, their goal is to hold on to what they got. Democrats have little to no chance with gaining seats. There are no Republican controlled Senate seats that are considered toss ups. But seven of the Democrat controlled Senate seats are considered toss ups, and polls are showing Democrats are losing an additional three seats to the republicans.
