At a meeting on Thursday the Republican National Committee voted unanimously to have less debates in the 2016 Republican Primary. In 2012 there was 20 debates, the GOP wants to have half of that. The reason for this change is the Republican Party wants to stop unpredictable rising front runners from emerging because of the debates (Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain). They also believe having so many debates in 2012 hurt Mitt Romney. They also want moderators that will ask serious questions and not gotcha questions. We saw a lot of that in 2012 and really the only candidate that gained from the gotcha questions was Newt Gingrich. (Click on videos below to watch Newt Gingrich's responses)
Personally speaking, I liked having all the debates in 2012. You got to see all the candidates from different angles and see what they stand for. This allowed the voter to find the best candidate. If we didn't have all the debates in 2012 Rick Perry could have been the nominee. The debates is what messed up Perry and what originally boosted Michele Bachmann, and later Newt Gingrich & Herman Cain. Indiana Governor and former Congressman Mike Pence said he is considering a run for President in 2016. He said this in an interview with Washington Post. “In the last few months, people have reached out,” he said. “I’m listening.” Pence is seen as a upset candidate. He is not mentioned as much as the other potential candidates like Chris Christie or Jeb Bush but he does have the ability to win the Republican Presidential nomination. He brings the Washington D.C. experience as well as the experience running the state of Indiana. RCP 2016 Republican Nomination Poll Average:
The poll average consisted of polls taken between March 18, 2014 - April 27, 2014. Yesterday Speaker of the House John Boehner announced that the House of Representatives will vote on creating a select committee to investigate newly released emails about the White House's response to the Benghazi attacks. Darrell Issa who chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee subpoenaed Secretary of State John Kerry to testify on Benghazi attacks. |
