The Republican Party has had its triumphant victories and crushing defeats, but it has kept preaching the same small government "Don't Tread on Me" conservatism. The problem is that they don't always abide by it.
"Keep the government out of my life!" they howl. The problem is that they support legislating morality by supporting having the government intrude into our personal lives by deciding who we can marry and what we can ingest or smoke. I am by no means endorsing these things, but it is hypocrisy.
They preach that politics as usual must end, but then once elected they become part of the status-quo. Very few remain the hardcore reformists they claim to be. Almost all remain in office for several terms and some until they die. Hypocrisy.
Now can the GOP evade hypocrisy claims? Well, they could start by preaching a consistently small government platform. Freedom in all ways of life. The GOP needs to stop supporting freedom fiscally, but authoritarianism socially. Support freedom in both.
If the GOP starts nominating people with a backbone and little weakness, then there will be less of the status-quo. Then, they will be free from hypocrisy.
