Below are the statements on the fiscal cliff bill made by Republican Senator Marco Rubio, Republican Congressman Paul Ryan and Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. Senator Marco Rubio:Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) today issued the following statement after voting against the so-called deal to avert the fiscal cliff by imposing job-killing taxes and failing to solve America's long term debt problem: Congressman Paul Ryan:“We’ll never get our debt under control unless we tackle its main drivers: too little economic growth and too much spending. Without presidential leadership, it will be difficult to forge bipartisan solutions to our debt and economic challenges. Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner Was Reelected Today To Keep His Leadership Postion1/3/2013 Today was the day the 113th congress began. With that it lead to the reelection of the Republican Speaker John Boehner. Boehner received 220 votes from the members of the House of Representatives This will be his second term as Speaker of the House. The congress looks almost identical to what it looked like 2 years ago when Boehner first became the Speaker of the House. We still have a Republican majority in the House of Representatives. Democrat Nancy Pelosi is still the House Minority Leader. In the Senate the Democrats still maintain control. Republican Senator Mitch McConnell is still the Senate Minority Leader and Democrat Senator Harry Reid is still the Senate Majority Leader. The leadership in both houses of congress stayed the same. With this new congress I do expect a lot of grid lock. We have the Democrats who control the Senate and we have the Republicans that control the House. We also have a Democrat President in the White House. All of which makes comprise very difficult in Washington. I do expect and would hope Speaker Boehner tackle's the following issues, spending cuts, the nation debt (which is 16.4 trillion and has increased by 6 trillion in the last 3 years), the deficit (doubled in the last 3 years), Welfare reform, immigration reform, as well as Social Security and Medicare reform. This congress has a lot to do and it would be nice if congress can get something done. Finally I think something new should be tried in Washington, maybe they could start reading the bill before we pass it. In the comment section post the issues you want this congress to take care of. Fox News Has The Story:John Boehner could be in for a fight Thursday when the newly seated House votes for the next speaker, with conservatives grumbling about his leadership and a report surfacing about a supposed plan to challenge him. Below is the fiscal cliff bill that was proposed to the senate last night around midnight. The bill passed the Democratic controlled Senate and is up to a vote in the Republican controlled House. |
