A few months ago 6 term Democratic Senator Max Baucus announced he would not seek a 7th term. With Baucus retiring, it left a Senate seat with no incumbent for election 2014. This led many to speculate that the Republican party has a very good chance at winning this seat. The only fear the Republican Party had was if the former Governor Brian Schweitzer ran for the open Senate seat. With the former Governor out of the race, it gives the GOP a sign of relief and probably the upper hand in this race.
